On April 19, 1775, a group of 77 Massachusetts militiamen faced some 700 British soldiers on Lexington Green. The Brits were out to destroy the colonists’ weapons depot; the colonists were determined to stop them. The “shot heard ’round the world” was fired and the American Revolutionary War began.
